Children’s Response Team

Children are affected in unique ways by disasters and other stressful events. Differences in age, experience, maturity level, and personality can lead to varying reactions to the same incident.  With knowledge about how children may react and what approaches better enable children to cope and recover – members of a Children’s Response Team can be effective advocates while volunteering in evacuation shelter settings in Berkshire, Franklin, Hampshire and Hampden Counties during disasters.

The Western MA Medical Reserve Corps has learned that forming specialized Response Teams to address specific needs is an effective way to ensure resiliency in our Region. Paying special attention to the needs of children in evacuation shelters during disasters in is meaningful to everyone – and the MRC is the pre-planning phase of forming Regional Children’s Response Team.
